Product in Focus: Nithya Injectable Collagen

December 20, 2016 by CarlFrascina

Discover the latest collagen boosting injectable from Vida Aesthetics, Nithya.

Nithya: the basics

From the age of 25, we lose up to 1.5% of collagen from our skin each year. The resulting appearance of wrinkles due to the loss of our natural collagen can be mitigated by replenishing it and this can now be achieved through treatment with injectable collagen, a product designed for the regeneration and reconstruction of tissues.

Nithya collagen is produced from equine Achilles tendon tissue in a sterile environment. Nithya is a Type I collagen powder which stimulates the production of new fibroblasts to create native Type III collagen during the immunodefense responses triggered by the cell regeneration process known as mechanotransduction, a process that is fundamental in cosmetic medicine and anti-aging treatments.

When the collagen is native it reduces the presence of free telopeptides, a source of allergenicity, almost to zero. It can be defined native because it preserves the same physical and chemical characteristics typical of collagen in the living organism (same sequence and composition of amino acids, same molecular structure); the collagen protein retains its native triple helix structure and there are no free telopeptides.

The equine collagen of Nithya passed all the cytotoxicity, allergenic and skin irritability tests. The product is safe and doesn’t have any contraindications.

Nithya produces the optimal conditions to restore connective tissue. It supplements dermal bio-revitalization and assists the regeneration of connective tissue in the dermis providing perfect conditions for the physiological neo-formation of collagen and can be used for body and facial chrono- and photo-aging treatments.

nithya-picPackaged in powder form, sterile, pyrogen-free and for single use, Nithya must be placed in suspension immediately before use in WFI (Water for Injection) and Lidocaine at a ratio of a 70mg vial of collagen to 4.5ml of WFI and 0.5ml of Lidocaine. Once in suspension, the product should be used immediately and any remaining following the treatment should be discarded.

Using the appropriate size needles from 32G x 2 mm up to 30G x 4 mm, the product is administered through intradermal infiltration by medical practitioners licensed to carry out such treatments. The technical skill of the practitioner is key to the success of the treatment so it is recommended that the practitioner receives specific training on the mesotherapy injection technique.

Nithya bears the CE 0373 mark and is manufactured in Italy by Euroresearch. Used in combination with lidocaine, the procedure is virtually painless and is the only commercially available Type I collagen intended for aesthetic use. Equine collagen, produced by Euroresearch, has been used in pad form for more than 20 years for its healing property on skin ulcers, open wounds, scars and pressure sores.

Equine collagen is FDA approved for wound therapy under the brand name BIOPAD. BIOPAD is produced by the same manufacture as Nithya and uses the same collagen source.

What are the advantages to using Nithya equine collagen compared to bovine collagen?

Studies have shown that 3% of the population are allergic to bovine collagen whereas equine collagen has not shown this level of adverse reaction and in fact, no cases of allergic reaction have been reported. Equine collagen is extracted from the tendon whereas bovine collagen is extracted from the hide.

This results in the equine collagen being a higher quality and purer product when compared with bovine collagen. In addition, it is Type III collagen that is extracted from the bovine hide rather than the Type I from the equine tendon. By using Type I to stimulate production of Type III collagen, the body has more control over production and distribution leading to better and longer lasting results.

The allergic reactions caused by bovine collagen are connected to the source and the extraction process. The collagen is usually extracted from the bovine derma which is a less pure source compared to the tendon, therefore during the extraction process the collagen fibre is cut and consequently this frees polypeptides which can cause allergic reactions to bovine collagen.

Equine collagen is a much more popular choice compared to bovine collagen because the amino acid sequence is more like the human one which makes it work much better with the human body and enhances the results from the collagen.

What are the differences between Type I and Type III collagen?

Type I is the most numerous in number among all collagen types. It can be found in bones, skin and intervertebral disks. It can also be found in scar tissue.

Type III is the second most abundant collagen in the body. It is closely related to collagen Type I in the terms of location and manner of synthesis. It is primarily located in the intestinal walls, muscles and blood vessels, although it can also be found with collagen Type I. Type I and Type III can be mixed together to create supplements for the skin, bone and muscle.

How do you know the animals aren’t infected?

Nithya equine collagen is a bi-product of an established industry. The animals are slaughtered for human consumption and, as with any animal entering the human food chain, are subject to rigorous checks, tests and strict processes. All horses destined for human consumption will have been monitored using a ‘passport’ scheme which will have a complete record of any drugs that have been administered, any indications of recent medications and/or drugs being administered that might render the animal unfit for human consumption.

Treatment in Focus: Bleph Banding

November 30, 2016 by CarlFrascina

Bleph Banding launches: the 15-minute alternative to eye bag reduction surgery

After the success of the puppet facelift, the latest aesthetic treatment to be offered in selected cosmetic clinics across the UK utilises PDO threads to lift skin under eyes, offering a non-surgical eye bag reduction.

In some cases removing the need for aggressive surgical techniques, Bleph Banding is classed as a non-invasive aesthetic treatment for men and women unhappy with sagging skin, or dark circles, under the eyes.

Rather than removing skin during an operation, Bleph Banding ditches the scalpel in favour of fine PDO threads, which in just a few stitches can rejuvenate the lower eye and tear trough area in 15-minutes.

EyeFirst Lift LFL PDO Threads – unique to Bleph Banding – are placed under the skin using a micro-fine needle, before being tightened to lift the skin without surgery. Ideal for patients between 35-50 for reducing minor skin laxity below the eyes, the results can last up to two years. Several treatments are required for maximum results.

No-knife eye bag reduction

One-stitch facelifts have been popular this year, as patients seek to swap surgery for less invasive cosmetic solutions, and Bleph Banding is set to sweep aesthetic clinics in 2017 as the next step in anti-ageing.

As well as lifting the skin initially, the First Lift PDO Threads used during Bleph Banding actually help to regenerate and rebuild the tissues in the delicate area; stimulating collagen production and ensuring a long-term anti-ageing solution.

During the 15-minute treatment, fine threads are carefully delivered under the skin using a micro-fine needle before being tightened. Topical anaesthetic is provided to ensure a comfortable treatment.

Dr. Martyn King from Cosmedic Clinic offers Bleph Banding amongst other facial rejuvenation treatments using First Lift LFL PDO threads, and believes 2017 is set to be the year the true value of this form of cosmetic treatment comes to the consumer forefront.

“Widely considered one of the most effective forms of anti-ageing treatment within the industry, choosing to undergo a treatment using PDO threads over more traditional forms of facial rejuvenation is becoming more and more popular year-on-year with patients,” he says.

“As the technology behind the threads used within treatments, such as Bleph Banding, continues to improve, the results in turn are proving to be both long-lasting and super-effective.”

With treatment starting from £1,000, Bleph Banding costs just a quarter of what traditional eye bag reduction surgery, and due to its non-surgical nature, the risks and complications are minimal in comparison.

Vida Aesthetics Launches Nithya Collagen Booster in UK

August 31, 2016 by CarlFrascina

Product company Vida Aesthetics has launched collagen booster Nithya to aesthetic clinics nationwide.

A truly unique form of pain-less anti-ageing treatment, Nithya is the first skin rejuvenation injectable made from equine-sourced protein available in the UK.

This revolutionary new skin plumping treatment is designed to holistically improve the production of new collagen, helping to ease fine lines around the eyes, improve facial volume in areas such as the cheeks, and can even improve the appearance of the décolletage.

Before and After Nithya treatment
Before and After Nithya treatment

The revitalising protein, which is derived from the tendons of horses, is a first for UK aesthetic clinics keen to offer a more natural-looking anti-ageing option. Results are long-lasting, and unlike wrinkle reduction treatments like Botox which paralyse the muscles and dermal fillers which can leave the face looking over-filled, Nithya works in harmony with your natural tissue structure.

Plumper, firmer looking skin without potentially harmful chemicals

After reaching the age of 25, we lose up to 1.5% of collagen from our skin each year thereafter. The resulting appearance of wrinkles and hollow-looking cheeks – due to the loss of our natural collagen – can be mitigated by replenishing it.

And this can now be achieved through treatment with Nithya; an injectable product containing protein sourced from horses which is designed for the regeneration and reconstruction of tissues.

Ideal for use as an anti-ageing and volume correction treatment, this is a Class III medical device. During the non-surgical treatment – which costs from £250 – the heterologous Type I collagen powder is mixed with water before being injected into areas of the face such as the cheeks and under eye. A topical gel is applied before hand to ensure patient comfort throughout.

Nithya is clinically proven to stimulate the production of new fibroblasts post-treatment to create native Type III collagen; a process that is fundamental in cosmetic medicine and anti-ageing treatments. It has been found to be specifically effective in post-menopausal women who have seen their collagen production slow down quickly.

Cosmetic nurse and skin specialist Miss. Bianca Estelle from BEA Skin Clinic was one of the first aesthetic professionals to trial the collagen booster and said:

“I have been using Nithya in my clinic for a few months now and the results are already impressive. It’s great we can offer this in combination with anti-wrinkle treatments such as fillers, or as a skin rejuvenation and volume restoring treatment of its own.”

Eddy Emilio, Director of Vida Aesthetics, who is pioneering the unique equine protein treatment in the UK says the launch of Nithya is already proving popular with his clients.

“This exceptional collagen-boosting product is proven to be safe, has had no reported side effects, is hypoallergenic and gives excellent results. We truly believe this could rival the results of established but overused anti-ageing cosmetic treatments,” he said.

“This is the only commercially available Type I collagen intended for aesthetic use in the country, and we’re already getting rave reviews from cosmetic doctors thanks to its excellent results and numerous areas it can improve the appearance of. The idea of using protein sourced from horses may seem quirky, but we’re certain this is the future of anti-ageing!”

Collagen boosting treatments using Nithya will be available for men and women in clinics nationwide from September 1st 2016 and start from £250. Results last 6-12 months.

For further information on Nithya by Vida Aesthetics call 01306 646526 or email eddy@vida-aesthetics.com. The latest product launches from Vida Aesthetics can be found online www.vida-aesthetics.com.

Perfectha Appoint Sophie Anderton As New Brand Ambassador

December 11, 2014 by Laura Casewell

By Rosie Wilson

The product line, which is distributed by Sinclair IS Pharma, has elected the model as its new representative.

Anderton is an advocate for the brand, which consists of five types of advanced hyaluronic acid gel fillers that are said to fill out wrinkles and add volume to the skin while hydrating it.

The five products that Perfectha carries are: Perfectha fine lines; Perfectha derm; Perfectha deep, Perfectha subskin and Perfectha complement. Parent brand Sinclair IS Pharma have outlined that Perfectha can be used for all aspects of facial contour, including loss of volume in the cheeks and chin, lip contouring and wrinkle filling.

The products are FDA approved and said to last 6-18 months, depending on the skin type of the patient and the application area.

Sophie, 37, said that her daily workouts mean that she has to work hard to maintain a youthful look. “When I’ve been working really hard, I tend to lose a lot of weight around my cheekbones and in photos that can look really hard. Perfectha works for me because it’s very gentle with long lasting results.”

Dr. Vincent Wong, the practitioner that treated Anderton, said: “In my clinical experience, Perfectha is one of the most versatile dermal fillers for facial contouring. It can be used to fill wrinkles, augment tissue volume and lip contour. Perfectha is very easy to inject and is very malleable. It produces instantly visible results and since there is no swelling around the injection area that would interfere with the visibility and evaluation of the results, the treatment can be controlled visually.”

Sinclair IS Pharma is an international speciality pharmaceutical company centred on dermatology – specifically aesthetics, wound care and skin care.

Rejuvenating The Face Without Surgery

October 10, 2014 by Laura Casewell

Rejuvenating The Face Without Surgery

APSARAS1Cosmetic treatments have come on in leaps and bounds over the past decade. So much so that today you don’t have to undergo cosmetic surgery to truly rejuvenate your face. With advanced non-surgical procedures, you can improve your appearance without a single scalpel in sight.

Not only is it possible to soften lines and wrinkles and refine your skin surface, but also to recreate youthful apple cheeks, gently plump your lips, straighten your nose, slim your face and give your jaw line a more defined look. However, with infinite possibilities these days, it becomes more difficult for the consumer to know which procedures are most suitable for their concern, and most importantly which are safest.

When thinking about non-surgical procedures I always evaluate my patient’s face methodically using the ‘rule of 3’ approach, as all of the three main problem areas of the ageing face need addressing to achieve a harmonious facial rejuvenation.

Lines & Wrinkles

The traditional key areas to look at when trying to turn back the clock are lines and wrinkles. Not all lines and wrinkles are created equally though. In order to decide on an appropriate treatment we have to divide this group into ‘dynamic’ and ‘static’ lines. Dynamic lines are those generated by repeated movement of underlying mimic muscles – think frown lines between the eyebrows, worry lines on the forehead and crow’s feet around the eyes.

To soften dynamic lines it is important to address their underlying cause (i.e. over-movement of mimic muscles). So the first step should be a botulinum toxin, like BOTOX. The newest trend goes towards using this on wider areas of the face, but in lower doses, in order to avoid the undesirable ‘frozen face’ appearance.

For static lines on the other hand, which are independent of mimic movement (e.g. nose-to-mouth lines), a filler is a good choice to gently plump up the grove from underneath. Hyaluronic acid fillers have now become the gold standard in this area.

Facial contour & volume

While ironing out wrinkles seemed to be the main aim of cosmetic treatments up until about five years ago, we have since realised that it’s actually another change that makes us look older, namely loss of facial volume and contour. While a young face displays a heart shape with plump cheeks and a firm, slim jaw line, this cheek volume is one of the first fat pads to go when we get older.

Flat cheeks and heavy jowls will then flip around the ‘inverted triangle of youth’ and leave our face appearing older – more than lines and wrinkles ever could. The good news is that we can correct this without surgery, by injecting a more viscous filler (‘volumiser’) into the cheeks. Hyaluronic acid volumisers offer the best benefit-risk ratio in my opinion.

Skin surface & texture

The last key area to look at is the skin surface and texture (‘skin quality’). Loss of elasticity, crepeyness, and irregular pigmentation are all important factors of ageing skin. Studies have even shown that irregular pigmentation not only makes you look older and less attractive to others, but people will also judge you as less healthy. Remedies to improve skin surface factors are, for example, cosmeceuticals, laser treatments, and medical needling.

Getting the best out of non-surgical treatments

Why don’t you take an old photo of yourself and compare this to your face in a mirror, before seeing an aesthetic practitioner. Try accessing your face as objectively as possible using the ‘rule of 3’ approach. This will greatly help you in your subsequent consultation with the cosmetic doctor.

Treatment In Focus: RevLite laser from Cynosure

May 14, 2014 by Laura Casewell

10177840_xxlCynosure’s new FDA-cleared RevLite laser is the latest market-leader for skin lightening and treating difficult skin conditions including acne and acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and melasma. RevLite offers faster treatment times and 60% more power than its laser predecessors, with minimal downtime for all skin types.

Innovative PhotoAcoustic Technology Pulse results in less trauma to skin’s surface. Proprietary PhotoAcoustic action forces energy at such a high rate that molecules in the skin vibrate and shatter. This PhotoAcoustic action is worlds apart from the more traditional photothermal effect that ordinary laser systems use; resulting in minimal damage to the skin’s epidermal layer.

How does RevLite work?

The revolutionary Q-switched technology uses a pulsed beam of light and optimum power to shatter dark skin particles, which are gradually removed by the body’s natural processes. The machine’s flattop beam distributes the energy evenly over the problematic skin area or dark pigmentation encouraging it to fade and disappear over time. The energy pulsed (one billionth of a second) through the skin is faster than the relaxation time of the healthy tissue, thus minimising redness and recovery time. In fact, the pulse is so fast it provides safe and effective results even if the pigmentation has existed for decades, leaving the skin healthy and rejuvenated.

Award-winning, proven technology treats even stubborn tattoos with virtually no risk of scarring or changes to skin pigment. This versatile laser can also be used to treat birthmarks, sun damage, freckling and brown spots.

Anti-ageing Maintenance with RevLite

RevLite is the safest, fastest and most effective method for skin rejuvenation, either as a one-off treatment or as part of an on-going Anti-ageing Maintenance regime. The machine’s PhotoAcoustic shockwaves reorder the skin’s collagen into a group of collagen fibres, tightening skin and encouraging it to repair and rejuvenate itself, with no downtime.

A recent clinical study of patients treated with RevLite over 6 bi-weekly sessions, demonstrated impressive results in improving the depth and number of wrinkles, appearance of pores, number of whiteheads and skin laxity.

Cynosure’s RevLite is the latest champion in skin rejuvenation and is available at the Angel Laser Clinic. Visit www.angellaserclinic.co.uk for more information.

Lifestyle Aesthetics Launch iRejuvenation

March 14, 2014 by Laura Casewell

10177782_xxlLifestyle Aesthetics have launched iRejuvenation, a secured, ergonomic and reliable solution to report, present and share patients cosmetic timeline from first injection through their ongoing treatment plan.

According to the Swindon-based company, iRejuvenation handles the entire cosmetic workflow, and patient consent, medical pictures, injection procedures, reporting and export of files are all integrated into one simple app. iRejuvenation allows accurate aesthetic procedures reporting within a few minutes.

A spokesperson for Lifestyle Aesthetics said the new download allows practitioners to establish a ‘cosmetic timeline’ for patients.

“Health authorities have emphasised the importance of traceability,” explained the spokesperson.

“The iRejuvenation Traceability Tool allows the precise recording of product injected. The cross search engine allows you to easily retrieve information stored. This can be searched by patient name, product’s name or the lot number.”

The iRejuvenation Compare Tool also allows medical professionals to show their patients the change in their faces over time.

“Bringing out the impact of cosmetic interventions will build patients loyalty as they can easily see how they have improved from the first treatment,” the spokesperson said.

This new application is a one off cost of £349.99 on the App store and the developers will be continually updating with new features and software – these will be completely free of charge to any professional who has purchased the App. They are only required to do an update.

“We are particularly excited about this new launch,” the spokesperson concluded.
