Longer Wavelength Laser Effective for Treating Keratosis Pilaris

January 25, 2015 by CarlFrascina

By Rosie Wilson

A study conducted by Northwestern University (USA) shows that longer wavelength laser treatment effectively deals with skin texture.

Keratosis Pilaris, a common skin condition that causes rough skin, redness and the appearance of permanent ‘goose pimples’ is often resistant to treatment. The American study has found that extended wavelength laser exposure can effectively treat skin roughness and irregularities in texture, although it has little effect on skin redness.

Eighteen patients, all of whom had been diagnosed with Keratosis Pilaris on both arms, took part in the study over a seven month period. They were treated with the 810-nm pulse diode laser on one arm twice for a total of three treatments, held four to five weeks apart.

Two blinded dermatologists rated the sites 12 weeks after initial treatment.

The researchers concluded: “Complete treatment of erythema and texture in keratosis pilaris may require diode laser treatment combined with other laser or medical modalities that address redness.”

Syneron’s GentleLaser Adds New Treatment To Line

November 14, 2014 by Laura Casewell

By Rosie Wilson

Aesthetic laser company Syneron Candela have added a new product to their GentleLaser line; the LaserFACE, which is used to safely remove facial hair.

The product is said to be a solution to waxing or hair removal creams, because the 6mm spot size makes it suitable for small areas and sensitive skin. The product includes a dynamic contact cooling device for less discomfort to the patient, and claims to be fast acting and long lasting.

The average required amount of treatments is 6, with each treatment recommended to be taken 4-6 weeks apart. Prices for GentleLaser will start at £40 for the upper lip, but prices will vary from clinic to clinic.

Treatment In Focus: RevLite laser from Cynosure

May 14, 2014 by Laura Casewell

10177840_xxlCynosure’s new FDA-cleared RevLite laser is the latest market-leader for skin lightening and treating difficult skin conditions including acne and acne scarring, fine lines and wrinkles, hyperpigmentation and melasma. RevLite offers faster treatment times and 60% more power than its laser predecessors, with minimal downtime for all skin types.

Innovative PhotoAcoustic Technology Pulse results in less trauma to skin’s surface. Proprietary PhotoAcoustic action forces energy at such a high rate that molecules in the skin vibrate and shatter. This PhotoAcoustic action is worlds apart from the more traditional photothermal effect that ordinary laser systems use; resulting in minimal damage to the skin’s epidermal layer.

How does RevLite work?

The revolutionary Q-switched technology uses a pulsed beam of light and optimum power to shatter dark skin particles, which are gradually removed by the body’s natural processes. The machine’s flattop beam distributes the energy evenly over the problematic skin area or dark pigmentation encouraging it to fade and disappear over time. The energy pulsed (one billionth of a second) through the skin is faster than the relaxation time of the healthy tissue, thus minimising redness and recovery time. In fact, the pulse is so fast it provides safe and effective results even if the pigmentation has existed for decades, leaving the skin healthy and rejuvenated.

Award-winning, proven technology treats even stubborn tattoos with virtually no risk of scarring or changes to skin pigment. This versatile laser can also be used to treat birthmarks, sun damage, freckling and brown spots.

Anti-ageing Maintenance with RevLite

RevLite is the safest, fastest and most effective method for skin rejuvenation, either as a one-off treatment or as part of an on-going Anti-ageing Maintenance regime. The machine’s PhotoAcoustic shockwaves reorder the skin’s collagen into a group of collagen fibres, tightening skin and encouraging it to repair and rejuvenate itself, with no downtime.

A recent clinical study of patients treated with RevLite over 6 bi-weekly sessions, demonstrated impressive results in improving the depth and number of wrinkles, appearance of pores, number of whiteheads and skin laxity.

Cynosure’s RevLite is the latest champion in skin rejuvenation and is available at the Angel Laser Clinic. Visit www.angellaserclinic.co.uk for more information.

Cynosure Launch Icon: The First Laser That Grows Skin

May 14, 2014 by Laura Casewell

APSARAS4Cynosure have developed the first laser treatment which can completely erase scarring.

The newly-launched Icon laser can treat all kinds of scarring including stretch marks, acne scarring, burn scars and surgical scars.

The laser is equipped with the only FDA-approved Skintel melanin reader, which analyses your skin type, and transmits this vital information wirelessly. The laser then cleverly sets itself into the optimal conditions for your specific skin type, using A.I. to deliver truly tailored results.

The non-ablative fractionated laser directs microscopic columns of heat deep into the dermis, leaving the surrounding tissue and epidermis intact. This deep heat triggers a restorative healing response in the skin, stimulating collagen production and allowing the skin to renew itself, gently replacing the scarred skin with fresh healthy tissue. The area blends naturally with the surrounding skin, as if it was never there.

Until now, clinicians have had to rely on relatively subjective tools to determine skin type, but the Skintel Melanin Reader can provide an incredibly accurate analysis of the skin.

//BOX OUT//

With the Icon system, aesthetic practices can provide the most popular treatments, including:

  • laser skin resurfacing
  • laser wrinkle reduction
  • laser scar and stretch mark treatment
  • permanent hair reduction
  • vessel and pigment clearance
  • leg vein clearance

Factors such as the pigmentation amount and level of sun exposure will be revealed and automatically programmed by the Icon laser, providing the best possible results.

A spokesperson for Cynosure said:

“It represents a new era in laser and optimised light technology. The Icon Aesthetic System offers high peak powers, state-of-the-art cooling, built in calibration, and the Skintel® Reader, the only FDA-cleared melanin reader, resulting in fast treatments with excellent outcomes.”

‘Love Laser’ Arrives In Britain: Improve Sexual Satisfaction With The First Non-Surgical Labia Remodelling Treatment In The UK

November 4, 2013 by Laura Casewell

11040555_xxl– Protégé Intima is the FIRST energy-assisted system to offer women non-surgical labia remodelling

– The only non-invasive treatment of its kind in the UK

– Enhances female ‘sexual satisfaction’

– No pain, no downtime, no scalpel

– Short treatment sessions

When it comes to a woman’s body there are certain parts most don’t like to talk about- especially the intimate areas. But a revolutionary energy-assisted device has just landed in the UK which promises to not only improve the appearance of ‘down there’ but also give the sex drive a makeover too.

Many women who suffer from skin laxity around and on their labia minora and labia majora- the inner and outer lips to the vagina- complain about reduced sexual satisfaction and low self-confidence. Until now they have only had a choice of removing the unwanted skin by a surgical procedure- labiaplasty.

This procedure is usually expensive (£2,000-£4,000) and the healing can take over three weeks. The procedure can also be painful and has been associated with the risks typical of all invasive procedures, such as scarring and bleeding.

While a few laser-based devices have been known to treat the appearance of the vagina, women are increasingly demanding totally non-invasive methods to improve their most intimate area.

The Protégé Intima is a new system designed to address labia remodelling without surgery. The energy-assisted device from BTL Aesthetics combines focused high frequency technology with built-in safety features to make the innovative ‘tightening’ treatment pain-free and very low risk.

The device can reach temperatures of 40-42C on the skin surface and the patient typically feels a pleasant warming sensation during the treatment. One session takes around 12 minutes- 6 minutes per one side of vagina- and patients usually need 4 treatments over 4 weeks.

Offering an embedded safety system to prevent burns, the system has recently gained approved for professional use in the UK and marks a groundbreaking addition to the BTL Industries portfolio of devices.

Of the women who trialled the treatment* 80% reported ‘significant to excellent’ improvement in the appearance of their labia, while 60% reported ‘significant to excellent’ improvement of sexual satisfaction- with 100% reporting some form of sexual satisfaction improvement.

* Official report available

Due to the increased blood flow in the treated area, along with the self-confidence boost the patient receives after treatment, the libido is heightened making sex post-treatment much more satisfying.

Although new to the UK, the Protégé Intima is making waves in the world of cosmetic surgery and aesthetic treatments, with industry experts hailing it “the next big thing in female cosmetic surgery.”

Laura Casewell, Editor of The Cosmetic Surgery Guide magazine says:

“The advances in most non-invasive cosmetic treatments have been astonishing in the last few years but, being the only energy-assisted treatment of its kind currently available, this really does look set to be huge in Britain. The days of surgical labiaplasty may be numbered now Protégé Intima is offering such outstanding results without the need for knives or needles.”

This will be the next big thing as far as female cosmetic surgery goes, especially as it’s proven to give your love life a boost- I have no doubt about it,” she concludes.

The system, which must only be operated by a trained professional, is about to go on sale to private clinics across the country, and looks set to be one of the most sought after non-surgical treatments in Britain for 2014.

Zuzana Fucíková, MD- who conducted the initial study into High Frequency Treatment for Non-Invasive Non-Surgical Labia Remodelling using Protégé Intima- said the treatment offers women safe and effective results.

“The Protégé Intima is a safe and effective device for non-invasive non-surgical labia remodelling. The use of the device leads to the improvement of the appearance of the vulva and to the improvement of sexual satisfaction.”

Number of men opting for laser hair removal doubles in a year

October 21, 2013 by Laura Casewell

12437166_xlMen all over the UK are seeking professional help to rid themselves of hairy ‘hobbit feet’ according to a London dermatologist.

Dr Michael Prager said the number of men visiting his clinic to have laser hair removal on their feet had doubled since 2012. Despite the process regularly costing upwards for £700 for six sessions, he is booking around two people a day for the procedure.

“For men, feet are a big area, because they all go out in flip flops at the moment, that is the big craze,” he said. “The fashion has changed: men show more leg and they want their feet to look good.”

He also predicted that in the future this trend may extend to men getting rid of their leg hair altogether.
