PRP for Lichen Sclerosis

A woman from Middlesbrough has said PRP treatment for Lichen Sclerosis has changed her life. Read her story here:

Susan said, “It was after I gave birth to my first daughter about 14 years ago that I noticed sex was getting more and more uncomfortable. I thought it was maybe just a bit too soon after my C-section, and I needed to give myself a little more time to recover.

A few months went by, and nothing changed, so I went to see my GP and was sent away with creams and lotions, but nobody could pinpoint what it was.

It got to the point where my husband at the time thought it was all in my head, which put a massive strain on the relationship and my life in general.

My confidence disappeared totally, as if almost overnight, after finally being diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis, and I became physically scared of being intimate.

That’s when I started to do some research into being treated privately and found out about Dr Farzana Khan.

Dr Farzana Khan is a regenerative functional aesthetic doctor as well as  KOL for RegenLab, with a special interest in women’s intimate health and menopause. She offers a range of regenerative and rejuvenating treatment for women suffering from vaginal dryness, lichen sclerosis, genitourinary symptoms of menopause.

I was nervous about my first treatment and didn’t know what to expect with it being such a sensitive area, but I was fine – it was painless and no down time after.

In addition to that, I noticed symptoms eased off straight after the first treatment.”

Dr Farzana Khan said: “PRP is a non-surgical treatment designed to rejuvenate the vulva and vagina using your own plasma rich in growth factors which will boost and repair your vaginal tissue. When PRP is injected into the vaginal area, it promotes healing of the vaginal tissues and improve quality of the vaginal walls.

PRP also enhances vaginal lubrication and sensitivity in the clitoral complex and can help treat symptoms such as dyspareunia (painful sex), vaginal dryness and lichen sclerosis. Women who have had the PRP vaginal rejuvenation treatment have shown to have enhanced sexual benefits including improvement in sex drive, arousal, vaginal dryness, vaginal itching and lichen sclerosis symptoms.

Patients usually need a course of 2-3 PRP treatments, 4-6 weeks apart, and then one treatment annually as maintenance to slow down the progression of the disease.

The PRP treatment can be combined with laser therapy, such as Erbium YAG laser, which works well for moderate to advanced disease.

Susan has had 2 courses of PRP with 2 courses of Asceplion Juliet Laser.  The aim is to improve her symptoms, improve lubrication, reduce itching and allow her to be intimate without being in pain.”

Susan said: “I have now been able to be intimate with my new partner, which has totally given me confidence for the future.

I have felt back to my normal self before the lichen and haven’t had any kind of flare-up or symptoms since the treatments.

I would absolutely recommend anyone to go and get this treatment, and only wish it was available to all on the NHS.”
