"BROTOX" - The rise of Male aesthetic treatments

Gone are the days when aesthetic treatments were seen as strictly a women’s realm.

Now “BROTOX” is on the rise…

But, let’s be honest, confidence knows no gender, and this rise in male self-care is a welcome reshaping of the narrative.

Is anyone really going to complain about someone looking after themselves that little bit more and showing themselves a pinch more self-care?

Today, more men than ever are exploring and openly adopting cosmetic enhancements as part of their routines.

The shift reflects broader societal changes, where self-presentation and grooming are no longer gender-specific concerns but universal priorities. For professionals aged 30-50, this growing trend is rooted in confidence, competitive edge, and a desire to maintain a youthful, vibrant appearance.

A Bold Change in Perception

Historically, there was significant stigma around men seeking treatments such as Botox or fillers. Yet societal attitudes have softened, driven by increased exposure through social media and candid discussions by high-profile public figures. Male celebrities openly credit subtle “tweakments” as part of their overall grooming, creating an environment where men feel encouraged to explore aesthetic enhancements without judgement.

Additionally, the video conferencing boom during the pandemic brought men face-to-face with their perceived flaws. Long hours on Zoom caused many to focus more on their appearance, leading to a rise in demand for treatments aimed at refreshing and rejuvenating their looks.

“Social acceptance for men undergoing these treatments is at an all-time high,” notes Dr Alek Nikolic, an aesthetic medicine specialist, who highlights how cultural changes and female influence have played a significant role.

What Treatments Are Trending?

The surge in demand for treatments is not limited to a single category. Men are turning to both non-invasive procedures and surgical enhancements to refine their looks.

Non-Invasive Treatments

  • Botox (often dubbed ‘Brotox’) remains a favourite among men for smoothing fine lines on the forehead, crow’s feet, and the “11” lines between the brows.
  • Fillers are gaining popularity, particularly for jawline definition and under-eye rejuvenation, helping to combat a tired or stressed appearance.
  • Skin Rejuvenation methods such as chemical peels and microneedling are sought after for improving skin texture and addressing pigmentation or scarring.

Surgical Procedures

  • Liposuction and body contouring continue to rise in popularity, helping men achieve chiselled, fit-looking physiques.
  • Eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) is a go-to for men who wish to combat drooping lids or puffiness for a more alert look.
  • Neck lifts and chin augmentation are increasingly in demand, helping to redefine masculine features and address signs of ageing.

The numbers don’t lie. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Botox usage among men surged by 182% between 2000 and 2020, and this trend shows no signs of slowing down.

Why Men are Opting for Aesthetic Treatments

Steph, Nurse Prescriber, at Ness Aesthetics, said: “As a nurse prescriber at Ness Aesthetics, I’ve witnessed a remarkable evolution in the aesthetic industry, particularly regarding male patients. We are seeing a significant rise in men seeking aesthetic treatments, reflecting a growing openness to subtle enhancements. Hair transplants have become increasingly popular, and our bookings for Plasma Rich Platelet (PRP) therapy are soaring.

Moreover, many men are opting for subtle dermal fillers to redefine their jawlines and cheekbones, achieving a more masculine appearance. There’s also an uptake in the demand for treatments addressing acne scarring, allowing men to boost their overall confidence and appearance. This shift signals a positive change in attitudes, with more men taking pride in their appearance and embracing aesthetic treatments that were once seen as predominantly for women.”

The motivations behind this turn to aesthetics are varied but deeply relatable. Many cite the desire to stay competitive in their professional lives, particularly within industries where appearance can influence perception. Others value the boost in confidence that a rejuvenated look provides in both social and romantic settings.

Dr Sean McNally, a board-certified plastic surgeon, explains, “Younger men often prioritise preventative treatments, while older men focus on corrective procedures. Regardless of age, the ultimate goal is to reflect outwardly how they feel inside.”

The Road Ahead

With the stigma diminishing and innovation making treatments safer and quicker, aesthetics for men is gaining traction. The focus remains on subtle, natural-looking results, with practitioners ensuring treatments enhance masculine features, not feminise them.

If you’re considering aesthetic treatments, experts recommend extensive research, consulting a skilled practitioner, and having realistic expectations. Whether it’s refreshing your appearance or addressing long-standing concerns, the road to self-enhancement is now firmly open to everyone.

It’s clear that looking and feeling great is a goal we can all share.
