Cynosure Launch Icon: The First Laser That Grows Skin

May 14, 2014 by Laura Casewell

APSARAS4Cynosure have developed the first laser treatment which can completely erase scarring.

The newly-launched Icon laser can treat all kinds of scarring including stretch marks, acne scarring, burn scars and surgical scars.

The laser is equipped with the only FDA-approved Skintel melanin reader, which analyses your skin type, and transmits this vital information wirelessly. The laser then cleverly sets itself into the optimal conditions for your specific skin type, using A.I. to deliver truly tailored results.

The non-ablative fractionated laser directs microscopic columns of heat deep into the dermis, leaving the surrounding tissue and epidermis intact. This deep heat triggers a restorative healing response in the skin, stimulating collagen production and allowing the skin to renew itself, gently replacing the scarred skin with fresh healthy tissue. The area blends naturally with the surrounding skin, as if it was never there.

Until now, clinicians have had to rely on relatively subjective tools to determine skin type, but the Skintel Melanin Reader can provide an incredibly accurate analysis of the skin.

With the Icon system, aesthetic practices can provide the most popular treatments, including:

  • laser skin resurfacing
  • laser wrinkle reduction
  • laser scar and stretch mark treatment
  • permanent hair reduction
  • vessel and pigment clearance
  • leg vein clearance

Factors such as the pigmentation amount and level of sun exposure will be revealed and automatically programmed by the Icon laser, providing the best possible results.

A spokesperson for Cynosure said:

“It represents a new era in laser and optimised light technology. The Icon Aesthetic System offers high peak powers, state-of-the-art cooling, built in calibration, and the Skintel® Reader, the only FDA-cleared melanin reader, resulting in fast treatments with excellent outcomes.”
